Thailand: Thailand: Northeast and east at risk of flash floods

BANGKOK, 4 September 2009 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has warned provinces in the northeast and eastern regions to be wary of heavy rain and possible flash floods during this period.

The Meteorological Department has issued an official warning to the northeast and eastern region of Thailand, stating that low pressure fronts will be causing heavy rain likely to join with monsoon conditions heading north from the southern region. Provinces including Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket and Trat are under threat of flash flood as water may rush from nearby forests into residential areas.

Uthai Thani province has been experiencing heavy rain for several days now and has resulted in widespread flood with water as high as 30 centimeters and rising.
