SUKHOTHAI, 19 June 2009 (NNT) - Forest water has flooded the Si Satchanalai district of the central province of Sukhothai after constant heavy rainfalls last night. The flooding affected residents in more than 5,000 households in the area.
Forest water from the Mon Reusi Mountain had flooded two tambons in Si Satchanalai district. Schools had to close temporarily and it was reported that the water level was as high as two meters in some areas.
At present, officials from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation have already evacuated villagers to a safe place as they inspected damages to give them initial assistance. Three years ago, the same area experienced a flash flood and mudslide which resulted in many deaths and injuries.
